Surrounding area

Camping Vinkenhof is beautiful situated nearby the little river the Geul. At the other site of the campsite you will find the Keutenberg, a famous hill for cyclists, with its beautiful surroundings, wild orchids, badgers and many birds.
Public transport (busstop and railway station) are on a short walking disteance from the camp site. Handy if you want to make a trip in the area.

We have a lot of beautiful hike and bike routes which you can follow directly from the campsite. Along those treks you will find small cozy villages. But you can also visit some nice bigger towns. If you want to enjoy yourself in a different way and want to see some nice villages and cities.

Take Valkenburg for example, with all his tourist possibilities, is only 2 km away from our campsite. And the towns of Maastricht, Aachen and Liege are only a few km away from our campsite.

There are plenty excursions to be made with your own car, by bus or by train. The German Eiffel, the Belgium Ardennes and even the north of France are all in close proximity of Camping Vinkenhof!

Schin op Geul

The nice little village Schin op Geul lies just south-east of Valkenburg. In the direct neighbourhood are beautiful hills like the Keutenberg. Hike up and a beautiful panoramic view will be your reward.
A lot of the houses, like the once on the photo's, are the traditional "Vakwerk huizen". They consist of white plaster between brown wooden beams and give the area a real cozy feeling.
In the village you can also take a ride on the very old steam train “Miljoenenlijntje”.

Valkenburg

Since 1833 Valkenburg is a tourist town. The beautiful railway station invites many people to make a stop over at Valkenburg. They will discover the castle-ruins, the caves and the nice surroundings. Therefore Valkenburg is one of the oldest tourist towns of the Netherlands.

Valkenburg has the oldest tourist information board of the Netherlands.
Valkenburg is also called “Bath Valkenburg” and “Marl city”. You will see the warm yellow color of the marl both under and above the ground.

Valkenburg has many attractions such as castle’s, museums, and the attraction parks “the Valkenier” and “Sprookjesbos” (fairytale forrest). The “Thermea 2000" (SPA) and the “Holland Casino” on the top of the Cauberg are also well known.
Nice shops, restaurants, terraces, the river Geul, caves, ruins and many historic buildings are typical of Valkenburg.
Valkenburg is just 3 km from the camp site and can easy be reached on foot.

Oud Valkenburg

Between Valkenburg and Schin op Geul lies the old village Oud-Valkenburg. It is surrounded by nature and has two castles on walking distance from the camp site: Genhoes and Schaloen. Schaloen has a famous garden: "Kasteeltuin Sjloensheim". It has a ot of wild orchids.

Between Oud Valkenburg and the campsite is the 2000 hectare nature reserve "Gerendal". It also has a large orchid garden full of very rare specimens. Our reception has maps and suggestions for great walks in this reserve.

Maastricht

Maastricht is the capital of the province Limburg. When you visit this magnificent city it will become clear to you that the inhabitants really like to live the good life. The atmosphere of 20 centuries of history is can still be felt in the old inner-city.
Small streets, churches, monuments, old houses and treasure rooms make Maastricht a beautiful place to be and to enjoy.

The southern way of living from the people of Maastricht invites you to follow them in their way of living. There are many restaurants, terraces, eating café’s, grand café’s and many French orientated restaurants. No where in the Netherlands will you find so many culinary possibilities. Also the typical specialties of Maastricht such as mushrooms from the caves, rommedoe cheese and asparagus will be served.
